Overstegen, Doetinchem, Municipality of Doetinchem

WDW has developed a neighborhood approach for the Overstegen district in collaboration with Sité Woondiensten. Within this approach, WDW is renovating 240 rental homes to achieve an A+ energy label. This collaboration follows the sustainable development of the Schöneveld district. Alongside the energetic improvement of the rental homes, WDW is collaborating with AGEM, Sité, the municipality of Doetinchem, and energy provider Liander to create a neighborhood plan for Overstegen, with the goal of making the district gas-free.

Overstegen Doetinchem

Overstegen is a post-war neighborhood in Doetinchem with a significant percentage of properties owned by housing corporations. The condition of the real estate is outdated, and the social challenges in the neighborhood are considerable. Sité and the municipality of Doetinchem have taken on the challenge of aligning with the Warmth Transition Vision to address the sustainability challenges in the Overstegen district. WDW has a strong relationship with Sité regarding the energetic improvement of the real estate, and with the support of the European Commission, WDW is working on a comprehensive plan to make the neighborhood gas-free in the long term.

Objectives

The goal of the comprehensive neighborhood approach is to achieve a long-term approach that allows various real estate owners in the district to take the necessary measures at the right time to create a gas-free neighborhood.

Collaboration

  • Sité Woondiensten: the client for the energetic improvement of the housing corporation homes.
  • Van Wijnen: the executor of the energetic improvement of the housing corporation homes.
Agem: support in connecting private property owners.
  • Liander: participates in the neighborhood approach by sharing knowledge and collaborating to adjust the infrastructure to the real estate approach in the district.
  • Firan: researching the possibility of a heat network in a part of the district.
  • Municipality of Doetinchem: translating the Regional Energy Strategy into a Warmth Transition Vision and facilitating private property owners who want to make their homes sustainable with financing options.

    Inventory & analysis

As soon as the Heat Transition Vision is established in the municipality and it becomes clear which neighborhoods have priority for phasing out natural gas, it is time for an implementation plan. WDW develops an integral neighborhood approach and implements it to make designated neighborhoods natural gas-free. We aim for long-term collaboration to gradually transition away from natural gas in optimal steps and at the right time.

As a housing corporation, you engage WDW if you want to gain insight into the opportunities and threats to the real estate in the neighborhood ahead of a neighborhood implementation plan. We create a plan that outlines the right measures at the right time. Through our approach, we offer a concrete and clear justification for the energy challenge.

Other projects

Dieren West, Dieren, Municipality Rheden

We have signed a letter of intent for this project with the municipality of Rheden, the Sustainable Animals Energy Cooperative and the Climate Association. Housing corporation Vivare has 370 rental homes and 278 owner-occupied homes in this district. We are dealing here with a strong cooperative with an interesting vision that we will be working with. From this collaboration we will make the step to the Vivare corporation.
